Missouri State Snaps UNI's 8-Match Win Streak, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State University Bears snapped the University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad's eight-match win streak with a 3-1 victory over the Panthers on Saturday at the Hammons Center. Missouri State won by scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.
Missouri State extended its winning streak to nine and its lead in the Missouri Valley Conference standings with the victory. The Bears moved to 19-7 overall and 10-2 in MVC play. UNI fell to 18-8 overall and 9-4 in league action. The Bears now lead the Panthers by 1 1/2 games and have swept the season series from UNI.
MSU's Lily Johnson tallied a match-high 21 kills and added 15 digs.
UNI's Amie Held posted a double-double with 21 kills and 14 digs. Bri Weber also secured a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs for the Panthers. Heather Hook narrowly missed her double-double with 42 assists, nine digs and five kills. Kendyl Sorge led the defensive charge with 18 digs.
UNI opened the match with a 25-19 triumph in the first set. UNI sided out at a 75 percent clip and had a .312 hitting percentage with 13 kills and three errors.Â
Missouri State evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 answer in the second set. The Bears hit .341 with 19 kills and only five attack errors in the second stanza. UNI hit .278 but could manage only a 54-percent sideout effort.
The Bears moved ahead in the match with a 25-21 win in the third set. The Bears took advantage of 10 attack errors by the Panthers in the pivotal set. UNI hit .041 with 12 kills, while the Bears managed a .250 hitting percentage.
Missouri State closed out the match with a 25-22 triumph in the fourth set. UNI had its lowest side-out percentage of the match in the fourth set at 45 percent. The Bears posted 15 kills and six attack errors for a .200 hitting percentage in the final set.
UNI will return home and take on the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
