UNI Wrestling Falls to EMU, 22-14

YPSILANTI, Mich. – UNI was edged out 22-14 by Eastern Michigan in a dual that came down to the final match.
The Panthers led 14-7, but gave up the final four matches to the Eagles and fell to 1-4 overall, 0-2 in the MAC. Eastern Michigan improved to 7-2 overall, 2-0 in the MAC.
Heavyweight Blaize Cabell stayed perfect in MAC duals with a 9-4 decision over EMU's Gage Hutchinson and gave the Panthers an early 3-0 team lead.
Leighton Gaul fell to Armando Torres, 11-1, but the Panthers took the next two matches to give UNI a lead heading into the 149-pound match.
Josh Alber built nearly two minutes of riding time heading into the third period at 133 pounds. He was up 11-2 before he secured a tech fall in 5 minutes, 40 seconds. He pushed the Panthers back into the lead, 8-4.
Trevor Jauch earned his first career MAC win with a decision over Kyle Springer at 141 pounds. UNI got its next and final win from Bryce Steiert at 157 pounds, who improved to 2-0 in the MAC.
The Panthers couldn't keep the momentum, and the final matches belonged to EMU. Jared Bartel led 4-3 before getting caught in a cradle and getting pinned by No. 14 Anthony Abro.
The next home meet will be Jan. 29 against Central Michigan.
