Wilson Named MVC Co-Female Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior Alex Wilson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Co-Female Track Athlete of the Week for her record-breaking performance at the Iowa State Classic, it was announced today.
This is Wilson's second Athlete of the Week honor this season, also earning the selection after breaking the UNI record in the 1,000 meters at the Panther Open on Jan. 17. It also marked the third time this season that a UNI student-athlete has been named to the list, with Sebastian Barth picking up a Male Athlete of the Week honor on Feb. 3.
Wilson led the Panther women through another successful outing in Ames this past weekend at the Iowa State Classic by capturing her fourth school record of the indoor season.
The Lisbon, Iowa native ran a strong race in the women's 3,000 meters, placing ninth overall. Her personal-best time of 9:29.52 set a new school record by five seconds. Her time is the fastest in the MVC this season by over eight seconds.
Wilson and the Panthers will wrap up the regular season meet schedule on Friday, Feb. 20 when they host the UNI-Dome Open. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. and is open to the public with free admission.
