Panthers Wrap Up Competition at MVC Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Northern Iowa cross country program competed at the MVC Championships today, turning in a combined seven top-40 finishes and several personal-bests.
Kelsey Kirchoff led the Panther women with an 11th place finish overall in 5K, her highest at an MVC meet and her fifth consecutive meet finish in the top-15. Her time of 17:32.77 moves her into fourth all-time at UNI.
Coming in second for UNI was Ashley Norem, placing 33rd overall with a time of 18:13.27. Callie Matthews finished with a time of 18:22.92 followed by Amber Clock with a time of 18:23.20. Theresa Connelly wrapped up UNI's top-five finishers with a time of 18:38.55.
On the men's side, Trai Bunch led the Panthers with an 8,000 meter time of 24:52.06. It was the second fastest time in his career, sending the senior across the line in 20th overall.
Ben Fick notched a top-30 finish with a personal record time of 25:08.59, placing 28th overall, his highest at the MVC Championships. Bailey Wetherell was UNI's third finisher, coming in 35th overall with a time of 25:28.33.
Dylan Eigenberger turned in a strong race in his MVC Championship debut, placing 42nd with a time of 25:50.58. Shane Kirchoff rounded out the Panthers' top-five runner in 44th place, coming in with a time of 26:02.32.
UNI will return to action when a select group of athletes compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Lawrence, Kan. on Nov. 13. The meet will start at 12 p.m.
