SIU Snaps UNI's 4-Match Win Streak, 3-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Salukis snapped the University of Northern Iowa's four-match win streak with a 3-1 triumph at Davies Gym on Saturday. SIU won by set scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 25-17.
SIU improved to 16-7 overall and 7-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI fell to 13-11 overall and 7-4 in the league.
The Salukis led wire-to-wire in the opening set and the home squad cruised to a 25-16 victory. UNI bounced back and evened the match with a 25-23 win in the second set.Â
SIU earned the upper hand with a 25-23 triumph in the third stanza. UNI trailed 16-11 midway through the set but closed to within 19-18. However, SIU was able to take the set and a 2-1 lead.
The Panthers looked good early in the fourth set by opening up a trio of four-point advantages (8-4, 9-5, 10-6). UNI held a 15-13 advantage but it went south from there as SIU ended the match on a 12-2 run.
Amie Held recorded her seventh double-double of her career with 14 kills and 13 digs. Bri Weber added 13 kills and nine digs. Piper Thomas contributed with 12 kills (.435 hitting percentage). Heather Hook posted a match-high 48 assists.
UNI will be back at home this Friday and Saturday with matches against Illinois State and Indiana State in the McLeod Center. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
