CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - All it took to snap a three-game losing skid was a five-set thriller in the McLeod Center, the third-highest dig total in school history and a first-time matchup between two 400-plus win coaches in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad posted a 3-2 win over the Missouri State Bears on Saturday. UNI won by set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 20-25, 15-7. The Panthers improved to 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the MVC, while the Bears dipped to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the league.
The Panthers posted 111 total digs in the contest - tying for the third-highest total in school history. Freshman libero Kendyl Sorge notched a career-high 33 digs, while junior Amie Held secured a career-high tying 30 digs.
The matchup brought a pair of 400-plus match winners in Bobbi Petersen and Melissa Stokes - the first such meeting in the history of the Missouri Valley Conference.
