UNI Notches 2nd Sweep of Weekend; 3-0 Over TCU

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad picked up its second straight sweep of the weekend with a 3-0 win over the TCU Horned Frogs at the Shamrock Invitational.
The Panthers moved to 4-5 overall by taking the match, 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. TCU dropped to 6-3 on the season.
TCU took a 4-2 lead in the first set, but a 6-1 run by UNI allowed the Panthers to take an 8-5 lead. UNI would not relinquish the lead and scored a 25-19 victory. UNI hit .282 with 16 kills and only five errors in the first stanza.
UNI opened up a 9-3 lead over TCU in set two. The Panthers pushed the advantage to seven points at 11-4 and 14-7. TCU trimmed the lead to 19-17 before head coach Bobbi Petersen called a timeout. The Panthers scored four straight out of the timeout and took a 23-17 lead en route to the 25-19 win in the second set.
The Panthers were able to close out the contest with a 25-23 victory in the third set. TCU led 3-1 before an 8-2 run by UNI gave the Panthers a 9-5 advantage. The Panthers had a five-point cushion at 15-10, but the Horned Frogs knotted the set at 19-19. UNI won four of the next five points to help put the match away. Kayla Haneline scored the final point wtih a kill - her 12th of the match.
UNI will close out this weekend's action at the Shamrock Invitational against the tournament host Notre Dame at 6 p.m. (CT).
NOTES: Autumn Alitz posted a career-high 10 kills ... Kayla Haneline recorded her fourth double-figure kill effort this season with 12 vs. the Horned Frogs ... Eryca Hingtgen reached double-figures in digs (11) for the eighth time in nine matches this season ... Kinsey Caldwell tallied 38 assists in the victory over TCU.
