Johnson Named CFPA All-Purpose Performer of the Year

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior David Johnson has been named the 2014 College Football Performance Awards All-Purpose Performer of the Year, it was announced today.
The CFPA selects its winners based upon objective rankings from its player and team performance index. Johnson is the fifth UNI player to earn CFPA honors following L.J. Fort (CFPA Linebacker Award), Ben Boothby (CFPA Defensive Tackle Award), Sawyer Kollmorgen (CFPA Freshman Performer of the Year), and Tyler Sievertsen (CFPA Elite Placekicker Award).
Johnson, a Clinton, Iowa, native was a force to be reckoned with this season in the FCS, finishing third in the country in all-purpose yards and first in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. He notched a school record 2,527 all-purpose yards during the 2014 season, including six games where he had 200 or more.
Johnson racked up 1,553 rushing yards from 287 carries, breaking the UNI record for rushing yards in a season. He followed it up with 536 receiving yards, including a career-high 203 yards against Iowa, the 15th highest receiving mark in the FCS this season. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 438 yards, including a spectacular 98-yard return for a touchdown against Illinois State.
The senior finished the season with 15 school records, including career all-purpose yards (6,859), all-purpose yards per game (140.0) and total points scored (384, 64 TD). Johnson notched a team-leading 20 touchdowns this season to finish in the top-25 in the FCS in scoring.
