UNI Moves Past South Dakota State, 3-1

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad recorded a non-conference win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Tuesday night at Frost Arena. The Panthers won by set scores of 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22.
UNI moves to 13-8 on the season, while SDSU drops to 6-19 overall.
The Panthers got off to a slow start falling behind 11-5 in the first set, but then scored 16 of the next 20 points. UNI used an 8-2 run to tie the set at 13-13. UNI was able to gain control of the set with a 6-0 run to take a 21-15 advantage. UNI closed out the first set, 25-19.
SDSU took a 4-1 lead to initiate the second set. The Panthers responded with a 7-1 run to take an 8-5 lead. The set was squared at 16-16, when UNI posted a 5-1 run to take a 21-17 lead. UNI was able to finish off the set, 25-20.
The third set proved to a roller coaster with both teams' momentum swaying. SDSU led 5-1 and 8-3, however UNI tied the set at 14-14. UNI look to close out the match and took a 19-17 lead. But the Jacks came right back with a 6-0 run to move ahead, 23-19. SDSU was able to take the third set, 25-22.
UNI gained a 10-7 lead early in the fourth set. The Panthers led 16-14 before the Jacks again rallied to take an 18-16 lead. UNI came out of a timeout and ran off three consecutive points to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Panthers would eventually complete a 6-1 run to take a 22-19 lead late in the fourth set. UNI would go on to finish off the Jacks, 25-22.
UNI will be back in action Saturday night at home against the Drake Bulldogs in the Panthers's pink match. The match will get underway at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
NOTES: UNI is 9-0 all-time vs. South Dakota State … Jaidyn Blanchfield posted a career-high six blocks … Blanchfield also contributed with five kills and three digs off the bench … Eryca Hingtgen led the Panthers with 19 kills (one off a season-high), 15 digs and two service aces … Kinsey Caldwell tallied 47 assists and 15 digs … it was Hingtgen's 11th double-double and Caldwell's ninth double-double of the season ... Lindsey Schulz posted 15 kills - her fourth consecutive double-digit kill total.
