
UNI Falls at Illinois State, 3-1

NORMAL, Illinois - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team traveled to face-off against the Redbirds of Illinois State on Wednesday afternoon and suffered its second conference loss by a final score of 3-1.
The Redbirds opened up the scoring for the match in the 21st minute as Rachel Tejada scored her 11th goal of the season from the assist of Kelli Zickert. That goal allowed for Tejada to share a piece of the conference lead in total goals.
Later on, in the 35th minute, the Panthers were able to tie the game at 1-1 after Illinois State let in an own goal. UNI would take this tie into halftime against against the traditional conference power-house .
In the second half, Tejada would score again in the 62nd minute on an unassisted strike past UNI's Whitney Blunt.
Eventually, Illinois State's Brooke Ksiazek would put the game out of reach in the 81st minute with her first goal of the season.
For the Panthers, Blunt tied a season high in saves with 11, while UNI had five different players tally a shot against Illinois State.
UNI will return home on Sun., Oct. 19, to face Loyola at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo. Kick is scheduled for 1 p.m.
