The Panthers Sweep NDSU in Final Game of NDSU Doublewood Inn Classic

FARGO, N.D.- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept North Dakota State 3-0 in Fargo, North Dakota, on Saturday night. This was the final match of the NDSU Doublewood Inn Classic for the Panthers. Shelby Kintzel and Macy Ubben were named to the NDSU Doublewood Inn Classic All-Tournament Team.
Macy Ubben led the Panthers with 14 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell had 36 assists and Amie Held recorded 16 digs for the Panthers.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the first set, a kill by Macy Ubben and an attack error by NDSU gave the Panthers the 6-4 lead. NDSU answered with their own 2-0 to tie it up again at 6-6. The set went back and forth like this until the set was tied up at 17-17. Back-to-back kills by Brittany Nelson gave the Panthers the 19-17 lead. NDSU could not catch the Panthers, and they won the set 25-18.
UNI jumped out to an early 8-5 lead in the second set. The Bison slowly started coming back and tied the set up at 11-11. A kill by Shelby Kintzel helped spark a 4-0 run by the Panthers to give them the 15-11 lead. UNI cruised through the rest of the set and won it 25-19 to take the 2-0 match lead.
NDSU took the early 7-3 lead in the first set. The Bison brought their lead out to five at 10-5, but the Panthers battled their way back to tie the match up at 14-14. A kill by Eryca Hingtgen gave the Panthers the 15-14 lead, but the Bison answered with a kill in the next play to tie it up again at 15-15. The set decision came down to the very end when they score was tied at 23-23. A kill by Ubben and an attack error by NDSU gave the Panthers the 25-23 win and the 3-0 match win.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they take on St. Louis University at 12:00 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
