
Panthers Fall Short at Nebraska, 4-0

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Northern Iowa softball team fell to the No. 14-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers this evening in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Softball Tournament, 4-0.
The Panthers and Cornhuskers were scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the home squad scratched across the first run of the contest.
Nebraska (41-13 overall) added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer to right field by Brooke Thomason and a sacrifice fly by Jordan Bettiol.
UNI (26-25 overall) tallied only a pair of hits off Nebraska starter Tatum Edwards. Kristin Lock and Julia Hunter each notched a single for the Panthers.
UNI starter Jamie Fisher pitched her 32nd complete game of the season. Fisher allowed three earned runs, struck out three and only walked one batter. Fisher drops to 21-14 on the season.
The Panthers will take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in an elimination game tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium. Tulsa dropped a 4-2 decision to Stanford earlier today.
NOTES: Fisher moved into a tie on the Panthers' all-time games started list for pitchers with her 94th career start … Fisher is tied with Jen Larsen (2007-10) … Fisher moved up to No. 4 on the Panthers' all-time innings pitched list … Fisher has pitched 617 innings in her Panther career and moved past Julie Phillips who pitched 612 innings from 2001-04.
