Panthers Fall to Hawkeyes, 10-1

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa softball team dropped a non-conference decision to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes this evening at Robinson-Dresser Field, 10-1.
UNI (21-22, 11-6 MVC) found difficulties collecting runs off of Iowa pitcher Kayla Massey. UNI plated just one run off of four hits in the game. Melissa Walls scored the Panthers lone run in the fourth inning after reaching base on a fielder's choice. A Haley Kriener double to right center field drove in Walls closing the Hawkeyes lead to 4-1 at the time.
Abbie VanVleet started the game for UNI and took the loss. VanVleet (2-6) tossed 3.2 innings facing twenty-two batters where she allowed four runs off 10 hits. Flaws came in for VanVleet during the fourth inning with two outs. Flaws finished the inning for VanVleet taking care of the final out of the inning and did not return. Ellie Doughty tossed the final inning for the Panther defense allowing two runs off two hits.
The Panthers will take the field again Sat. Apr. 27, in Normal, Ill., taking part in a three-game series with the Illinois State Redbirds. The Panthers and Redbirds and Panthers will cap the series at Noon on Sunday.
