UNI Picks Up Win Over North Dakota, 61-56

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team notched its first win of the season over North Dakota on Tuesday night, scoring a 61-56 victory. The Panthers now have an overall record of 1-1.
Stephanie Davison hit four clutch free throws with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game to clinch the Panther victory. Davison finished the game with 11 points, while Jen Keitel led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds.
North Dakota went on a 6-0 run to open the game before the first media timeout. Out of the timeout, Madison Weekly drained a three-pointer to end the run and cut their lead in half, making it 6-3. The game quickly proved to be physical, with seven fouls called in just the first five minutes of the game.
UNI cut the North Dakota lead to just five points with 9:18 left in the half when Brooke Brown knocked down a three-point shot under pressure, followed by a steal on the defensive end of the court by Amber Sorenson, keeping the score at 20-15. Weekly cut the lead to four points just minutes later with a floating jumper in the lane, making the score 22-18.
Moran Lonning cut the lead to four again with less than five minutes left in the first half after Brittni Donaldson snuck a pass into the lane, finding Lonning for a quick layup to make the score 28-24. North Dakota went on a 5-0 run to end the half, sending the Panthers into halftime down 33-24.
The Panthers quickly cut the UND lead to just two points heading into the first media timeout of the second half. Keitel hit a turnaround jumper in the lane followed by a layup by Davison to make the score 39-37 with 16:00 on the clock.
UNI took its first lead of the game with 14:22 left in the game after Brown notched her second three-pointer of the game, putting the Panthers up 40-39. UNI continued its 11-0 run after Keitel scored her first three pointer of the season to make the score 43-39 with 13:42 on the clock.
There were four lead changes in less than a minute after UND tied the score 45-45 with 10:46 left in the game. North Dakota took a 52-49 lead with 8:49 on the clock when Allyssa Wall found herself in the lane for a layup, giving UND a three-point lead.
Keitel spun around in the lane for another jumper with 4:35 left in the game, tying the score 52-52. Keitel followed it up with a deep two-pointer, giving UNI the lead again with 3:46 on the clock, making it 54-52 in favor of the Panthers.
Keitel scored seven points in two minutes, capped off by her second three-pointer of the night with 1:46 left in the game, putting UNI up 57-56. Davison hit her four free throws with less than 30 seconds left in the game to seal the 61-56 victory for UNI.
Post-Game Notes vs. North Dakota
Stephanie Davison scored in double figures for the second game in a row. The sophomore notched 11 points and career-high seven rebounds against North Dakota.
UNI has outscored its opponent in second chance points for the second game in a row, outscoring North Dakota 12-4. This is also the second game in a row that the Panthers have outrebounded its opponent on offensive boards.
Hannah Schonhardt notched a career-high four steals against North Dakota.
Jen Keitel scored seven of her 14 points in just two minutes late in the second half, leading both teams in points.
