
UNI Downs Drake in Three Sets

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept the Drake Bulldogs 3-0 Saturday night in the McLeod Center. The Panthers are now 3-1 in MVC play.
Eryca Hingtgen led the Panthers with 14 kills, and Courtney Kintzel had a .500 hitting percentage. Kinsey Caldwell recorded 40 assists and Amie Held tallied 18 digs.
UNI jumped out to an early 7-2 lead at the first timeout of the first set. Kills by Eryca Hingtgen, Courtney and Shelby Kintzel, and Macy Ubben helped the Panthers increased their lead to nine to make it 17-8. UNI held on to the lead and won the set 25-19.
In the second set, the Panthers took control early and jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Hingtgen continued to dominate in the kill department and helped UNI increase their lead to 11 at 18-7. The Panthers held the momentum throughout the remainder of the set and won it 25-17 to take the 2-0 match lead.
The Panthers kept the momentum going into the third set. They had the 10-4 lead at the first Drake timeout. The Bulldogs brought it back to within four at 23-19, but UNI held on and won the set 25-19 to win the match 3-0.
The Panthers will travel to Peoria, Illinois, to take on Bradley Tuesday night at 7:00.
