Panthers Fall to UNO, 174-124

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa- The University of Northern Iowa swim and dive team was defeated by the University of Nebraska-Omaha 174-124 Friday night at the Glen F. Henry Pool. This was the final home meet of the season as well as senior night for the Panthers.
Bethany Hovland, in her final home meet as a Panther, won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive events. She scored 259.20 points in the 1-meter and 263.32 points in the 3-meter. Allie Bey took the runner-up spot in both events, scoring 232.80 points in the 1-meter and 238.27 points in the 3-meter.
Taylor Ostrowski took another dominating win in the 200 butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:10.73, four seconds faster then the second place finisher. Sierra Sachtjen took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.46.
Senior Stephanie Frederick finished second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 24.62 and 54.25 respectively. Natalie Johnson also had a pair of runner-up finishes on the night. She finished with a time of 1:00.87 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 2:11.99 in the 200 backstroke. Stephanie Paape continued this trend and took another pair of second place finishes for the Panthers. She had a time of 1:10.77 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:31.91 in the 200 breaststroke.
The Panthers will return to the pool for their final meet before the MVC Championships on January 26. They will travel to Ames to take on in-state rival Iowa State at 1:00 p.m.
