UNI Takes Care of Air Force, 33-12

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team won its second conference dual of the weekend Sunday, topping Air Force Academy 33-12. With the win, the Panthers improved their season record to 3-3. UNI is also 2-0 in Western Wrestling Conference dual competition.
The Panthers got off to a quick start with heavyweight Blayne Beale scoring a major decision over Air Force's Brook Gosch, then moments later senior 125-pounder Cruse Aarhus delivered a technical fall over Mengyuan Qiu. Joe Colon (133) edged out AFA's Tyler Untrauer with a 5-4 decision in the next match. Levi Wolfensperger (141) put an exclamation mark on the Panthers' opening surge, pinning Carter McElhany in 2:16. After four matches, UNI found itself up 18-0.
A pair of exciting matches at 157 and 165 pounds added to the Panthers' momentum. David Bonin (157) used a take down with one second left in overtime to escape his match with AFA's Josh Kreimier with a 7-5 decision. Riley Banach (165) also used take downs to his advantage, scoring six of them in the match's second and third periods to overcome Colby Kluesner with a 13-8 decision.
No. 6-ranked Ryan Loder (184) then put the match out of the Falcons' grasp, pinning Greg Isley in 5:22. The fall was Loder's eighth of the season. The sophomore is now 22-1 overall this season with a 6-0 record in dual competition. The Panthers were up 30-12 at that point and never looked back, as Taylor Kettman defeated Josh Mohr with a 3-0 decision in the final match of the afternoon.
UNI will return to the West Gym Friday to host the Wisconsin Badgers. Wrestling will begin at 7 p.m.
