University of Northern Iowa sophomore kicker Tyler Sievertsen and senior linebacker L.J. Fort were each selected to the Beyond Sports College Network FCS All-American first team, the organization announced Friday. Senior offensive tackle Jay Teply earned third-team honors.
The three helped UNI to a 10-3 record, a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference championship, and a berth in the FCS Quarterfinals.
Sievertsen has now earned four All-America distinctions following his first season as the Panthers' starting kicker. In addition to the first-team selection by BSN, Sievertsen was a Phil Steele second-team nod, a second-team All-American by The Sports Network and a third-team pick by the Assoicated Press.
Fort, who finished as the runner-up for the Buck Buchanan Award presented to the nation's top defensive player, has six All-America honors under his belt. Along with the BSN first-team selection, he was a first-team All-America pick by The Sports Network, Walter Camp, Phil Steele, and College Sports Madness, and a third-team selection by the Associated Press.
The third-team All-America nod for Teply is the first national recognition of his career. Teply was a first-team All-MVFC selection in 2011 after starting all 13 games at left tackle for the Panthers.
