
Panthers Defeated by Illinois State

Normal, Illinois- The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team lost to Illinois State Saturday night in Normal, Illinois. The Redbirds defeated the Panthers 179-115.
Chelsea Hartman won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle. In the 1000, she finished with a time 10:31.76, and in the 500 she clocked in at 5:11.32. Teammate Becca Ortmann took fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:25.03.
Natalie Johnson was runner up in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.36. Teammate Jamie Pearson was third in the event at 1:01.46. Johnson also finished second in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:11.46. Pearson also took second in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:00.60.
Stephanie Paape was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke, and Caryn Knight took third in the same event. Paape finished with a time of 1:09.29, and Knight with a time of 1:09.37. Paape also finished third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:30.75, a new season best for her.
Kenzie Smith finished second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle. She finished the 100 with a time of 55.09 and the 50 with a time of 25.39. Teammate Elise Drewsen finished third in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 55.40.
Bethany Olson won the 3-meter dive with 271.58 points. She took third in the 1-meter dive with 280.04, which was a new season best for her.
The Panthers return to the pool Thursday at 5:00 p.m. when they take on in-state rival the University of Iowa. This will be the last home meet of the season for UNI, and the last meet before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
