
No. 14 Panthers Sweep Indiana State For 40th Straight MVC Win

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The No. 14 University of Northern Iowa volleyball team beat Indiana State 3-0 to win its 40th consecutive Missouri Valley Conference match and improve to 14-1 on the season. The Panthers claimed the match by scores of 25-11, 25-11 and 25-17 to improve to 4-0 in MVC action.
Krista DeGeest led UNI with 10 kills, and Amy Braun and Shelby Kintzel each finished with eight. Bre Payton finished with 27 assists, and Kintzel and DeGeest finished with five and four blocks, respectively. Candice Burke led UNI with 14 digs.
Indiana State (9-6, 1-3) scored first in the first set, but UNI rattled off eight straight points to build an 8-1 lead. ISU stopped the Panther run, but Amy Braun, Shelby Kintzel and Michelle Burow combined for five straight kills to extend UNI's lead to 13-2. UNI led by at least 10 and as many as 16 points the rest of the way to the 25-11 win. The Panthers limited the Sycamores to just three kills and a -.148 attack percentage in the set.
The Panthers hit .407 in the second set, tallying 14 kills on 27 attempts with just three errors. Lehman, Braun and DeGeest each finished with three kills in the set. The Panthers scored the first five points in the second set and never led by fewer than four points on the way to the 25-11 set win.
Indiana State scored first in the third set, but UNI scored the next seven points to take a 7-1 lead. Indiana State pulled within two, 11-9, but the Panthers outscored ISU 10-2 to build a 21-11 lead. UNI led by at least six the rest of the way, taking a 25-17 win in the set to win the match 3-0.
The Panthers finished the match with a .293 attack percentage, while holding Indiana State to -.010 hitting. UNI recorded 9.0 team blocks, and Indiana State finished with 6.0.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they host Wichita State.
