Panthers Roll to 69-33 Win Over Evansville For 13th Straight Victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team picked up its 13^th straight victory with a 69-33 win at Evansville Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium. The 33 points are the fewest allowed by UNI this season, and the victory gives UNI (21-5, 14-1 MVC) its most wins since joining the Division I ranks in 1982.

K.K. Armstrong, K.K. Armstrong led the Panthers with five assists.

Samantha Heck led Evansville (8-17, 3-11 MVC) with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Evansville scored first and held UNI scoreless for almost four minutes to start the game. Jacqui Kalin scored four quick points, and Amber Kirschbaum followed suit with baskets on back-to-back possessions. Erin Brocka knocked down a pair of free throws to cap a 10-0 UNI run that put the Panthers in front 10-2 at the 14-minute mark.

Evansville responded with four straight points, but a three from K.K. Armstrong hit a three from the left baseline to give UNI its first double-digit lead, 18-6 at 9:15.

Heck cut the UNI lead to 10 with a basket on the block, but Oney hit her second three of the game and Armstrong scored on a layup to stretch the Panther advantage to 23-8 with 8:10 on the clock.

UNI went in front 30-10 when Armstrong hit a free throw at 5:49. Each team scored another basket to send the teams into the break with UNI leading, 32-12.

UE scored the first four points of the second half to trim the UNI lead to 32-16, but the Panthers responded with an 8-0 run to build a 40-16 advantage.

Evansville scored five straight to cut the UNI lead to 19, but Madrigal converted layups on consecutive possessions to extend UNI's lead to 44-21. That was the beginning of an 8-0 run for UNI that stretched the Panther lead to 48-21 with 11:12 on the clock.

Heck converted a three-point play, but Oney knocked down a baseline three, and Jess McDowell scored a layup and free throw on a Panther fast break to put UNI in front 54-24 with 10:08 remaining.

The Panthers would lead by at least 26 and as many as 36 the rest of the way.

UNI shot 26-of-54 (48.1 percent) from the floor, including 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range. The Panthers were 11-of-15 (73.3 percent) from the free-throw line.

Evansville shot 13-of-57 (22.8 percent) from the floor, including 0-of-14 from behind the arc. UE finished 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Panthers turned Evansville's 25 turnovers into 27 points. Fourteen of those turnovers were results of Panther steals. UNI committed 16 turnovers in the game, resulting in 11 points for the Aces.

UNI returns to action on Friday when it plays at Bradley.
