Panthers Fall to Iowa State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team fell to Iowa State University, 214-86. The Panthers finished with three first-place spots.
Diver, Bethany Olson took first in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. She finished the 1-meter dive with a score of 242.78 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 262.80. Teammate Kristin Staude finished in fourth for the 1-meter dive. She scored 199.80 points.
Chelsea Hartman, with a time of 10:34.38, took first in the 1,000 freestyle. Hartman also took second in the 500 freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 5:13.61, just three hundredths of a second off of the first place finisher.
Jaime Pearson finished in the runner-up spot for the 100 butterfly. She clocked in with a time of 1:00.95. Close behind was teammate Lindsey Phelps, clocking in with a time of 1:01.40, taking fourth place. Pearson also took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.70.
For the 200 freestyle, Ashley Nelson took third. She finished in a time of 2:02.35. Rebecca Ortmann (2:03.35) and Ashlee Graham (2:04.10) took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Caryn Knight took third in the 200 IM, clocking in with a time of 2:16.47. Knight also took fourth in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Elise Drewsen finished in fourth for the 50 freestyle. She finished in 25.76. Teammate MacKenzie Smith followed shortly behind, clocking in at 25.78. Smith also took third in the 100 freestyle (56.00).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Elise Drewsen, MacKenzie Smith, Rebecca Ortmann and Lindsey Phelps took the runner-up spot. The quartet clocked in with a time of 1:42.97.
The Panthers next meet is Sat., Oct. 22 against Kansas and North Dakota. The diving events will begin at 8 a.m. and the swimming events will follow at 11 a.m. The meet will take place in the Glen F. Henry Swimming and Diving Pool in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
