UNI Knocks off Former MVC Champion Creighton

After 110 minutes, 90 in regulation and 20 in overtime, the match was scoreless so the Panthers and Bluejays went to a shootout.
UNI and Creighton traded goals in the first round of penalty kicks by junior Kiki McClellan and Erin Gunther respectively,
UNI senior Kala Negus beat the Creighton goalkeeper for the score in the second round and Creighton's Macy Mauer hit the post on her shot putting the Panthers in front, 2-1.
UNI junior Ashley Capone and Creighton's Gabriela Guillen each traded goals in the third round putting the score at 3-2.
The fourth round pushed the score to 4-3 as freshman Caitlyn Fuller (UNI) and Brittany Newman (CU) both found the back of the net. The stage was set for senior Missy Journot and the rest of the Panthers in front of a crowd composed mostly of UNI fans.
Journot delivered on her penalty kick by putting the ball in the back of the net to clinch the quarterfinal win.
UNI was out-shot in the game 19-9 and out-shot on goal, 9-4. The Panthers were even on corner kicks with Creighton at 6 apiece.
Kiki McClellan led the way with three shots for UNI and sophomore Allie Brees had two shots with one on goal. Seniors Ashley Sill and Missy Journot, and sophomore Sam Copley each added a shot on goal for the Panthers.
UNI sophomore goalkeeper Erin Zaideman tallied three saves in the first half and senior Lauren Potzman tallied six saves in the second half and overtime periods.
#6 seed UNI will now travel to Springfield, Mo. on Fri. Nov. 4th to face the #2 seeded Missouri State Bears. Kick off is set for 6:00 p.m.
