
Panthers Sweep Shockers for 49th Straight Valley Win

WICHITA, Kan. - The No. 12 University of Northern Iowa volleyball team swept Wichita State to earn its 15th straight win and its 49th consecutive Missouri Valley Conference victory Saturday night at Charles Koch Arena. UNI won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 28-26.
Michelle Burow led the Panthers (24-1, 13-0 MVC) with 11 kills, and Megan Lehman added 10. Bre Payton finished with seven kills, 37 assists and eight digs. Candice Burke led UNI with 16 digs, and Amy Braun collected 14. Krista DeGeest led the Panthers with five blocks.
Camri Zweisler led WSU (14-8, 8-4 MVC) with 14 kills.
Wichita State took an early 5-1 lead in the first set, but the Panthers chipped away and tied the set at 12-12. After tying the set at 13-13, UNI scored to take its first lead, 14-13. WSU took at 15-14 lead, but UNI scored back-to-back points to reclaim the lead, 16-15. UNI held a one-point edge, 19-18, before it rattled off six straight points to win the set 25-18.
With the second set tied 12-12, UNI scored three straight point to take a 15-12 lead. The Panthers maintained at least a one-point lead and led by as many as five on the way to a 25-22 win.
After trailing by as many as four points in the third set, UNI pulled within one, 18-17. Wichita State scored three straight points to extend its lead to 21-17. The WSU lead alternated between three and four points, and a kill from Ashley Andrale brought up set point for the Shockers, 24-20. The Panthers scored five straight points to bring up match point for UNI, 25-24. WSU scored to tie the set at 25-25, but Burow put down a kill to give the Panthers match point again. A kill from WSU's Elizabeth Fiedl tied the set at 26-26, but a kill from Burow and a block from Payton and DeGeest gave UNI a 28-26 win in the set and a 3-0 win in the match.
UNI finished with a .234 attack percentage, and WSU hit .153. The Panthers tallied 9.0 blocks, and the Shockers notched 7.0.
The Panthers return to action on Friday when they play at Bradley.
