Indiana State Drops UNI, 70-45

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team dropped a 70-45 decision at the hands of the Indiana State Sycamores on Friday night in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Indiana State (8-7 overall, 3-1 MVC) used an 18-2 run to start the game. Indiana State took a 38-15 halftime lead and eventually pushed the margin to 31 points at 51-20 with 14:36 left in the game.
UNI (10-6 overall, 1-3 MVC) made only 11 field goals compared to 27 for Indiana State in the contest. UNI was led by sophomore guard Anthony James' 15 points. James was the only Panther to make more than one field goal in the game.
"You have to give Indiana State credit, they outplayed us tonight," James said. "We had some shots we didn't hit in the first half but give credit to Indiana State. They played well tonight."
Indiana State drained 12 3-pointers in the game and were led in scoring by guard Steve McWhorter's 15 points. Jordan Printy chipped in 11 off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor.
The 25-point margin is the largest defeat of a Ben Jacobson-coached squad in Missouri Valley Conference play. The previous largest defeat came at Creighton in the 2007-08 season when the Bluejays tallied a 74-50 win over the Panthers.
UNI will return home and take on the Bradley Braves on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
NOTES: It marked the first time in 37 games that UNI allowed 70 points in a game ... UNI's Johnny Moran saw his streak of 17 straight games with a made 3-pointer snapped as he went 0-for-2 from 3-point land ... UNI made 17-of-26 free throws against the Sycamores, who made only 4-of-9 at the charity stripe ... UNI's Tyler Lange scored his first points of the season by making 2-of-4 free throws in the second half ... all 11 Panthers that played in the game scored.
