
Softball Wins Pair at Bradley

The University of Northern Iowa softball team picked up a pair of Missouri Valley Conference wins on Thursday, winning 10-2 and 9-2 at Bradley. The Panthers (19-14, 6-3 MVC) earned a 10-2 five-inning win in the first game. Jen Larsen allowed two earned runs through 5.0 innings to earn the win. Bradley (11-21, 2-8 MVC) used an RBI double to score first, tallying a run in the bottom of the first. UNI used a walk, an error and hit batter to load the bases in the top of the third. Dunker came up with two-out home run to clear the bases and give UNI a 4-1 lead. Daigh hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth, and she later stole home to give the Panthers a 6-1 advantage. The Panthers used three hits and an error to tack on four more runs in the top of the fifth, building a 10-1 lead. Bradley scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Panthers maintained an eight-run lead to claim a run-rule victory. Dunker, Livi Abney and Eranne Daugharthy each collected two hits for the Panthers in the second game. Melissa Tillett gave up one earned run through 5.2 innings to earn the win. Bradley scored first in the second game, tallying a run in the bottom of the first. Dunker hit a solo home run in the top of the third to tie the game, 1-1. Bradley answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead, 2-1. Daugharthy hit a single in the top of the fifth, and Samantha Waters came in to run for her. She eventually scored on an error to tie the game, 2-2. UNI used three hits and two Bradley errors to add four runs in the top of the sixth inning, giving UNI a 6-2 advantage. UNI used four hits, including a two-RBI single from Abney, to score three runs in the top of the seventh, extending UNI's lead to 9-2. Jaye Hutcheson held Bradley scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win for the Panthers. UNI returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Drake in a doubleheader starting at noon.
