Panthers Fall to Shockers in Semifinals

WICHITA, KAN. – The No. 4 seeded UNI Panthers fell to the top-seeded Wichita State Shockers in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference semifinal match Saturday, 4-1.
Wichita State earned its first point of the match after winning two doubles matches. Lutfiana Budiharto and Stephanie Dalmacio handled UNI's Laia Gonzalez-Garrido at the No. 1 spot, 8-4. The Shockers' Lenore Lazaroiu and Florentina Hanisch then topped Sampada Kanade and Jessica Kunzelmann at the No. 2 position, 8-2, to secure the doubles point.
The Shockers emerged victorious as they won three out of the four completed singles matches to claim the 4-1 win. No. 4 singles competitor Damaschin began the head-to-head portion of the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-1 win over UNI's Kunzelmann.
The next match to finish was at the No. 6 position where UNI's Delagardelle topped Wichita State's Wakim, 6-1, 6-2.
Wichita State wrapped up the win as Lutfiana Budiharto (No. 1) defeated Walker, 6-2, 6-2 and Hanisch (No. 5) defeated UNI's Stefannia Sampaio 6-0, 6-2.
Wichita State will take on Illinois State tomorrow afternoon for the title.
UNI returns all but one athlete next season. Senior Sampada Kanade ends her Panther career with 69 wins as she is tied for seventh in career wins.
