
Dunker's RBI Single Gives UNI 1-0 Win Over Drake

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Courtney Dunker hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to give the University of Northern Iowa softball team a 1-0 win over Drake in Missouri Valley Conference action Sunday afternoon at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
The Panthers had two runners on and two out when Dunker singled through the left side to score Megan Machovec from second and give the Panthers the extra-inning win.
Jaye Hutcheson (5-1) allowed just one hit through five innings of relieve to earn the win. Machovec and Livi Abney each tallied two hits for the Panthers.
Drake (23-11, 5-4 MVC) notched just four hits in the game. Macie Silliman led Drake with a pair of hits.
The Panthers (20-16, 7-4 MVC) did hot have a runner advance past second until the bottom of the eighth inning. Megan Machovec led off the inning with a single up the middle. Daigh hit a sacrifice bunt to move Machovec over to second. Larsen singled into center, and Machovec was thrown out at the plate to record the second out of the inning. Drake intentionally walked Livi Abney to put runners on first and second. Drake got Dunker to fly out to left to end the inning.
Hutcheson retired the side in order to send the game into the bottom of the ninth still scoreless. Sarah Bakey drew a one-out walk in the bottom half of the inning, but the Panthers were unable to advance her to send the game into the 10th inning.
Hutcheson once again sat the Bulldogs down in order to keep the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the 10th.
Machovec led off the bottom of the inning with an infield single. Mackenzie popped out to record the first out of the inning. Jen Larsen hit a fly ball to the wall in right field to mark the second out. Machovec stole second, and Drake intentionally walked Abney. Dunker drove a pitch through the left side to score Machovec and end the game.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday when they Iowa State.
