Lehigh head coach Andy Coen:
I was thrilled today with the effort our football team put forth. We really came out and played four full quarters. I cannot say enough about how our defense played. We put tremendous pressure on their quarterback and really did a great job of bottling up an explosive offense.
Our special teams were very important. We had a string where we really weren't moving the football at all. We'd get the ball at midfield punter Alex Smith did a great job of giving them a long field. We came up with a blocked field goal, which was huge. It really took momentum away that way. Offensively, we made just enough plays. Jake (Drwal) made a great play. That was a situation that we've practiced, and the execution was great.
Turnovers that we got at the end of the first half to keep them out of the endzone and without any points and keep it at a one-score lead were key for us.
This is a very good football team that we played, and we've got some very good wins this sason, and this is without a doubt the best football team that we've beaten. They're champions of a conference that we have a tremendous amount of respect for.
I don't want them to be satisfied to get here, just to be in the playoffs, but this is a different football team. They made a lot of mistakes early, and then they showed their head again today. They played well together, and I'm pleased with our coaches, and I'm pleased with our team with how they came through this season and became better and played as a football team. Our guys became leaders and made things happen because they played as a total team.
