Panthers Roar Back Over Dayton, 14-6

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa-The University of Northern Iowa Panthers (1-0) overcame a 6-0 deficit to defeat the University of Dayton Flyers, 14-6, in their season opener at the Ramada UNI-Dome Classic. The Panthers were held scoreless until the third inning when they began their 14-unanswered run comeback, which ended in the sixth inning.
Dayton caught UNI off guard in the first and second innings. Brandy Brown started the Flyers' hot streak with an RBI single that scored Molly Meyer. Five runs were then notched to Dayton's score in the second. Megan Lee crossed home after UNI pitcher Melissa Tillett mishandled a ground ball. Katie Jordan then drove in Lauren Nacke and Courtney Kutsulis with a two-RBI double. Another single by Anne Maci scored Meyer and Katie Jordan, making the score 6-0 after two innings.
Head coach Sarah Bakey to replace redshirt freshman Melissa Tillett at pitcher in the top of the second. From that point, Bakey shut down the Dayton offensive, allowing only one hit and zero runs.
The UNI bats warmed up in the bottom of the third as junior Sarah Bakey tossed four and two-thirds innings of scoreless softball and only allowed one hit.
