Game 1: UNI 8, Wisconsin-Green Bay 4
Minneapolis, Minn. - The Panthers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back in an 8-4 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay to improve to 5-2 on the season. Sophomore pitcher Eranne Daugharthy (Ottawa, Kan./Olathe East) picked up her first career win in the pitcher's circle for the Panthers throwing a complete game four-hitter. The Phoenix fall to 4-4 on the season and committed three errors in the loss.
Junior lead off hitter Megan Machovec (Central, Iowa/DeWitt) continued her exceptional hitting in the leadoff spot by starting the game with a hit for the fifth time in the seven games played this season. Machovec finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Senior Morgan Paulson (Fort Dodge, Iowa/Fort Dodge) followed with a single of her own to move runners to first and second with no outs. Junior Jen Larsen's (Moline, Ill./Moline) fly out moved Machovec to third base, and Daugharthy walked to load the bases for the Panthers. Wisconsin-Green Bay pitcher Katie Conney hit two consecutive Panther batters to push two runs across the plate for UNI. Following the two hit batters, sophomore Angie Steil's (Lacona,Iowa/Southeast Warren) RBI sacrifice fly led to another Panther run. A throwing error committed after a Kelly Papesh (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) hit groundball allowed junior Rachel Gerking (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) to score and extend the Panther margin to 4-0 at the end of the first inning. The top of the Panther line-up provided more run support for Daugharthy (1-0) when Paulson hit a RBI single to push another Panther run across the plate in the top of the second inning. Freshman pinch runner Allison Galvin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) scored following a Paulson RBI groundout to give the Panthers an insurance run and a 6-1 advantage in the fourth inning. Paulson continued her damage at the plate in the top of the sixth with a RBI single as the Panthers' scored two runs in the sixth inning to push their lead to 8-1 before the Phoenix scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Paulson finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate and tied her career high with 3 RBI.
