UNI Picked Fourth in 2009 State Farm MVC Pre-Championship Poll

The UNI Women's Swim team was ranked fourth in the pre-championship poll for the 2009 State Farm MVC swimming and Diving Championships. UNI received eight points in the poll.
UNI's Chelsea Hartman holds the conference's top 1,650-yard freestyle time by nearly 20 seconds.
Missouri State, with two first-place votes and 21 overall points, has been tabbed as the pre-championship favorite at the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championship, Feb. 12-14 in Carbondale, Ill., hosted by Southern Illinois University.
The Bears are the favorites by the slimmest of margins over Illinois State (20 points and two first-place votes) and Southern Illinois, with 19 points and a first-place vote.
The Bears hold top-five times in 20 events on the MVC Best List, including the top overall times in the 100 butterfly (top-three), 200 butterfly, 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 and 400 individual medley, 400 IM relay and the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Chelsea Dirks-Ham leads MSU with three MVC-bests in the 100 and 200 fly and the 100 backstroke.
Illinois State has posted the Valley's best time in three events – 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle and 100 breast stroke – and holds top-five times in 18 events entering the championship.
Lauren Terzis holds the league's top 500 and 1000 freestyle times of the season for ISU.
Host Southern Illinois is tabbed third in the pre-championship poll and boasts eight times that lead the MVC heading into the conference meet.
Therese Mattsson holds the best times in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle to pace SIU's list of 18 events with top-five league performances.
Christina Schmidgall of Evansville holds a top-five time in the 200 freestyle and will look to challenge for the league crown.
The 2009 State Farm MVC Championships will be held this Thursday thru Saturday in Carbondale, Ill.
