BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team claimed a 3-0 win at South Dakota State on Wednesday, winning its 19th straight match. UNI won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14.
The Panthers (21-2) hit a season-high .457 in the match, led by a .714 effort from Krista DeGeest. The freshman finished with 11 kills and just one attack error. Michelle Burow finished with six blocks, and Ellie Blankenship tallied 11 digs. Bre Payton notched 38 assists in the match.
UNI held South Dakota State (7-15) to .172 in the match. UNI outblocked the Jackrabbits 6-3, and UNI held a 41-26 advantage in digs.
The Panthers held SDSU to .062 hitting in the first set on the way to the 25-15 win. Shannon Aschoff notched five kills in that set.
Leading 12-10 in the second set, UNI went on an 8-2 run to stretch its advantage to 20-12. UNI led by at least seven the rest of the way, claiming a 25-18 victory.
The Panthers hit .556 in the third set, leading the entire way to take a 25-14 win.
UNI will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Bradley at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
