
Brantley Claims Heavyweight Title at UNI Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Redshirt freshman heavyweight Christian Brantley captured his first UNI Open title on Sunday in the UNI-Dome as he downed Iowa State's Eric Thompson in the finals, 8-7.
Brantley scored a late takedown and then held on as Thompson tried for an escape in the final seconds. The victory marked his fourth of the day and Brantley improved to 10-1 on the season.
UNI secured 12 top-six finishes in the tournament.
Three Panthers earned runner-up finishes. Sophomore Alec Hoffman, a freshman, finished second at 141 pounds. Senior Andrew Anderson ended his day in second place at 197 pounds.
Freshman Scott Hazen (174 lbs.) placed fourth.
UNI had two fifth-place finishers in Grant Sutter (125 lbs.) and Jamal Lawrence (157 lbs.).
Charlie Ettelson (149 lbs.), Tyson Reiner (157 lbs.) and Moza Fay (165 lbs.) all placed sixth in their respective divisions.
The Panthers will tangle with the No. 1-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
