Indiana State Tops UNI, 74-56

Terre Haute, Ind. - Jay Tunnell scored a game-high 19 points, and Indiana State drained 13 three-pointers, as the Sycamores posted a 74-56 win over the University of Northern Iowa at the Hulman Center. Indiana State improved to 8-5 overall, 3-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while UNI fell to 10-4, 2-1.
Indiana State hit five of its first nine field goals - including three three-pointers - while UNI was just 1-for-8 to start the game, as the Sycamores raced to a 14-2 lead over the first seven minutes of the game. Adam Koch scored five straight points, including draining his first three-pointer of the year, to cut ISU's lead to 16-9, but the Sycamores hit three consecutive trifectas to extend its advantage to 25-9. Indiana State led by as many as 24 late in the first half, and were up 41-23 at the break. The Sycamores were 8-for-13 (62 percent) on threes in the first half.
UNI was unable to get closer than within 16 after halftime, with Indiana State holding as much as a 27-point lead. UNI freshman guard Jon Montgomery scored all 12 of his points in the second half, nailing 3-of-6 on three-pointers.
ISU connected on 51 percent of its shots for the game, and was 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from behind the arc. UNI shot 44 percent from the field and tied a season high with 18 turnovers. UNI was led by Eric Coleman, who had 13 points, while Montgomery and Koch each chipped in with 12. The 74 points was the most UNI has allowed on the season, and the 51 percent shooting was the highest by a Panther opponent this year.
UNI travels to face Illinois State on Tuesday (Jan. 8) in Normal, Ill. Tipoff from Redbird Arena is set for 7:05 pm.
