
UNI Swimmers Fall to Nebraska-Omaha

Sophomore Abby Girard (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and freshman Josie Itzen (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) won five combined races for the Panthers Saturday as UNI fell to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, 145-117.
Girard captured individual titles in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. She won the 100 with a time of 59.64, just ahead of teammates Abby Moes (
Itzen's performance in the pool resulted in two individual titles as well. The freshman turned in a personal-best time of 2:13.34 in her 200-yard individual medley victory, while setting another personal-best in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.26). She also finished third in the 100 freestyle, with a time of 54.86.

Girard and Rickert were also members of the runner-up 200-yard medley relay team, along with sophomore Andrea Grandcolas (
The Panthers will return to the pool Jan. 25, when they travel to Minnesota State-Mankato. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. They will then face Minnesota State-Moorhead on Jan. 26. The time for this meet has yet to be determined.
