IOWA CITY, Iowa-- The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought decision to Iowa Tuesday night. The Panthers fell 4-0 after trailing 3-0 at halftime.
The Hawkeyes scored in the 12th, 34th and 41st minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room. Iowa added another second-half goal to put the final score at 4-0.
Amy Seubert (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) and Meghan Schoeberl (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) played well on both ends of the field, and Allie Sowell (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) worked hard on the defensive side of the ball.
"We had very good midfield play tonight," Head coach Kathy Kakoyianni-Bering said. "We did a good job of getting the ball out and switching fields. It was a good overall team effort."
Heidi O'Mara (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and Krista Thorley (Ajax, Ontario/J. Clarke Richardson) split time in-goal. O'Mara played the first half and allowed three goals while stopping four shots. Thorley played the second half and allowed one goal.
The Panthers fall to 2-4-1 on the season. Iowa improves to 2-1-3 overall.
UNI heads to Pocatello, Idaho for the Idaho State Soccer Tournament. The Panthers take on Air Force Friday, Sept 21 and meet San Jose State Sunday, Sept. 23. Game times are at 1 p.m. and noon, respectively.
