Rockford, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team topped Northern Illinois 5-2 to move to 7-0 this season. This is the third straight season the Panthers have gotten off to a 7-0 start in the spring season.

The doubles team of Sampada Kanade (Mumbai, India/Modern English) and Carolina Hannes (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Jardim Sao Paulo) topped NIU's Lilian Asuaje and Nao Umemura in the No. 2 singles position 9-7. In the No. 3 spot, Mariana Muraca ( Sao Paulo, Brazil/ Elvira Brandao) and Taynara Moraes (Santos, Brazil/Luiza Macuaco) won 9-7 over NIU's Dora Delagadillo and Jenny Edner 9-7 to secure the doubles point for the Panthers.

The Panthers were then able to get 4 singles wins to come out with the 5-2 win. Taynara Moraes both stayed undefeated in dual singles play this season with the wins today.

"Today was a really hard fought match," UNI head coach Sachin Kirtane said. "We played really well at the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots and also did very well in singles. We just have to go out there and play hard again tomorrow."

The Panthers are in action again tomorrow as they take on Illinois-Chicago at 10 a.m. in Rockford, Illinois.
