BROOKINGS, S.D. - A first-half double-double by sophomore Jordan Eglseder gave the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball a four-point halftime lead over South Dakota State Friday, but the Panthers were unable to hang on in a 61-55 loss to the Jackrabbits at Frost Arena.

UNI (4-1) suffered its first loss of the season despite an effort by Eglseder that included 16 points and 11 rebounds in the first half. Eglseder finished the contest with 18 points and 14 boards - including six off the offensive glass.

The Jackrabbits used a 7-0 run late in the second half to close what had been a nine-point lead for the Panthers and trailed by just four at the half, 31-27.

UNI then managed just five points in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, as South Dakota State opened up a 42-36 lead. UNI cut the lead to five, at 58-53, with less than a minute to play, but the Jacks connected on 11 of their 14 second-half free throws to pull away down the stretch.

South Dakota State benefited from Garrett Callahan's team-high 16 points, while Kai Williams added 13. Eglseder led the way for the Panthers, while Adam Koch and Jared Josten each pitched in 10 for UNI.

The Panthers fell despite out-rebounding the Jackrabbits, 35-23.

The Panthers conclude their three-game road swing Tuesday, Nov. 27, with a matchup against in-state rival Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m., with coverage on Mediacom Connections Channel.
