The University of Northern Iowa women's swim team lost to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, 183-163, lowering their dual meet record to 4-9. The Panthers won four of 16 events. Freshman Abby Girard (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) brought in three of the first-place finishes, earning a total of 27 points for the Panthers.
Girard earned first place in the 100-yard back, 200-yard back and the 400-yard IM. Freshman Kelly Mateas (Winfield, Ill./Community) claimed first place in the 500-yard free.
The Panthers also claimed six individual second-place finishes. Sophomore Katie Maloy (Auburn, Ind./R. Nelson Snider) came in second in the 1000-yard free and the 500 free, sophomore Abby Moes (Sioux City, Iowa/East) in the 100 back, sophomore Katie Klinkenborg (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) in the 200-yard fly, sophomore Ashley Hunter (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) in the 100-yard free and sophomore Lauren Stork (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center) in the 400 IM.
The Panthers will be back in action Thursday (Feb. 8) in Carbondale, Ill. at the start of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Championships will be all day from Feb. 8-10.
