PANTHERS FALL 4-1 TO WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY
Green Bay, Wisc.--Gretchen Orcutt's first career goal was not enough for the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team against Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Panthers fell 4-1 to the Phoenix, dropping their season record to 0-7-0.
Orcutt (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) gave UNI a 1-0 lead with a score in the 16th minute. An assist from freshman Katie MacBride (River Falls, Wisc./River Falls) sprung the sophomore into open territory where she connected on a 10-yard one-timer that sailed just under the crossbar and met the net for her first career goal.
It was all UWGB from there. A Phoenix goal in the 27th minute knotted the score at one, while Jennie Gorwitz put through the first of her three goals on the night in the 37th minute to give UWGB a 2-1 advantage at half.
Gorwitz scored two more goals, one in the 61st minute and another in the 66th minute, to notch the hat trick and give the Phoenix a 4-1 victory over UNI.
Orcutt connected on her only shot of the night, while Amy Seubert (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) took five shots without hitting the net. Tiffany Wendel (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and Jackie Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver/Luther College) tallied a shot apiece, bringing the Panther shot total to eight on the night.
UNI's record falls to 0-7-0 on the season.
The Panthers return home to host Valparaiso, Sunday Sept. 17th at 1 p.m.
