Panthers Cruise Past Indiana State, 83-56

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) posted a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the 24th-ranked University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to an 83-56 win over Indiana State Saturday afternoon at the UNI-Dome.
It was Stout's third straight game with a double-double, and his eighth of the season. He hit 8-of-10 shots from the floor, and also tied his career high with six blocked shots. Stout led a balanced offensive attack, as nine Panthers scored, with seven players tallying eight or more points.
The Panthers improve to 20-4 overall with the win, and remain in a tie for first at 10-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State falls to 9-12 overall, 2-11 in MVC play. UNI has now won 20 or more games three straight seasons under head coach Greg McDermott.
UNI got outstanding production from its bench, as the Panthers got 30 points from its reserves. Freshman guard Travis Brown (Richfield, Minn.) led the way with a career-best 16 points, on 6-of-7 field goal shooting.
Both teams were clicking offensively early on. The Panthers held a 24-20 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half, before going on a 19-3 run over the next six minutes to make the score 43-23. Stout and Brown accounted for 11 of the Panthers 19 points during that stretch. UNI shot 65 percent from the field in the first half - including 6-of-9 on three-pointers - and held a 47-31 lead at halftime.
UNI put the game away with an 18-4 run to start the second half. Five different Panther players scored during that stretch, as UNI extended its lead to 65-35 with just over 12 minutes to play. Indiana State never got closer than 25 points the rest of the way.
For the game, the Panthers shot 59 percent from the field, while holding Indiana State to just 40 percent shooting. UNI also won the battle of rebounding, 41-24.
The Panthers are next in action on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when co-league leader Wichita State comes to the UNI-Dome. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
