Panthers Fall to Iowa 138-62 in Final Dual Meet of the Season

The University of Northern Iowa Women's Swimming closed up its regular season tonight, losing 138-62 to Iowa. The Panthers won one of 11 events, lowering their dual meet record to 2-10 and preparing them for tough competition at the MVC Championships in Carbondale, Ill. on Feb. 15-18.
Three freshmen; Katie Maloy (Auburn, Ind./R. Nelson Snider), Katie Klinkenborg (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East), and Abby Moes (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City East) stood out, each claiming second place in individual events.
Maloy raced into second in the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:59.86. Finishing third in the same event was sophomore LiAnne Choitz (Buckeye, Ariz./Buckeye Union/New Mexico State) with a time of 11:29.73.
Moes finished second in the 200-yard IM (2:22.46) and sophomore Amanda Lopez wasn't far behind finishing third with a time of 2:25.63.
Klinkenborg also came in second in the 200-yard fly with junior Megan Little (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) trailing to a third-place finish. Junior Rachael Robnett (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) also finished third in the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:36.68.
The Panthers took top three finishes in the 400-yard free relay, dominating the final event of the night and adding 17 points to their final score. The leaders in this event were freshman Ashley Hunter (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North), freshman Maegan Miller (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East), Maloy, and junior anchor Erin Danielson (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston). Their finishing time was 3:46.37 for eleven points.
