Panthers Sweep Bears for First Time in 20 Years

The Panthers shot 50 percent from the field en route to a 66-47 victory over the Bears this evening in the West Gym. The Panthers took sole possession of second place in the Missouri Valley Conference with their seventh home win of the season. UNI hosts
"This was an extremely important win for us tonight - it gives us an edge up going into the final three regular-season conference games," head coach Tony DiCecco said. "We executed very well on both ends of the floor. We played great defense and were able to really move the ball on the offensive end."
The Panthers held league-scoring leader Kari Koch to nine points, sweeping the Bears for the first time since the 1985-86 season on both home and away courts. UNI was led in scoring by junior forward Tara King (
The Panthers outrebounded MSU 31-23 and had 20 points off turnovers. UNI led for the entire game, cruising to leads of 7-2, 23-13 and 28-19 leads in the first half. Davida Moore cut UNI's lead entering the break, 32-25, and Sarah Klaasen opened the second half with a two-point field goal to come with five points. UNI responded with 14-2 run, extending their advantage to a healthy 17 points.
