
Panthers Fall to Cyclones, 195-94

The University of Northern Iowa women's swim team lost to Iowa State University, 195-94, lowering its dual meet record to 2-6. The Panthers won only one of 16 events, but finished in the top three in 12 events. Amanda Firman (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), the only Panther winner of the day in the 100-yard free, earned a total of 13 individual points.
Firman raced in to first in the 100 free with a time of 54.96. She also claimed second in the 50-yard free, 25.28.
The Panthers had six other second-place finishes. Abby Girard (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) took second in the 200-yard IM, 100-yard back and 200-yard back. Kelly Mateas (Winfield, Ill./Community) claimed second in the 500-yard free and Katie Klinkenborg (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) came in second in the 100-yard fly. Also, Rachael Robnett (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) claimed second in the 200-yard free.
Panther relays earned a total of six points with their second-place finish in the 200-yard free relay and their third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
The Panthers will be back in action Jan. 13 at Carbondale, Ill. where they will face off with Southern Illinois and Evansville. The meet will start at 12 p.m.
