The Panthers took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes by a King layup. She went on to score six of UNI's first eight points. The Wildcats gradually took a six-point lead (14-8) during the first 10 minutes of the first period. UNI then battled back to take a lead at the 4:04 minute mark with a 12-4 run. Down by one, King was fouled on a three-pointer and proceded to drain three consecutive shots from the charity strip; Keefe then hit a trey to take a 28-22 lead.
