UNI Defeats Central, 75-41, in Exhibition

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Senior forward Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) had 15 points and six rebounds to lead the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 75-41 win over Central (Iowa) College, Wednesday night in the Panthers first exhibition game of the 2006-07 season.
Stout connected on 6-of-7 shots from the floor, including knocking down both of his three-point attempts, to lead a balanced UNI attack. Freshman center Jordan Eglseder (Bellevue, Iowa) scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes for the Panthers, hitting 6-of-8 field goals.
Travis Brown (Richfield, Minn.) scored nine points and Jared Josten (Webster City, Iowa) added eight for UNI. A total of 14 UNI players played, with 12 of them scoring, and no one logged more than 21 minutes.
The Panthers shot 59.3 percent from the field for the game, including 66.7 percent (16-for-24) in the first half. UNI held Central to just 30.8 percent shooting for the game. The Panthers size advantage helped them control the boards, as they grabbed 41 rebounds to just 22 for the Dutch. Miguel Ley led Central with 10 points, all in the second half.
This was the first of two exhibitions for UNI. The Panthers will play Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 5 at 5:05 p.m. in the West Gym, which will be the second game of a doubleheader with UNI's women's team. The Panthers open their regular season Sunday, Nov. 12 against Nicholls State in the Basketball Travelers Classic, played in Seattle, Wash.
