PANTHERS FALL 4-2 TO NORTH DAKOTA STATE
Waterloo, Iowa - Two goals from Aimee Rasmusson couldn't lead the University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team to victory against North Dakota State. The Bison scored four goals in the bitter cold to take the game 4-2.
Rasmusson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) put through a rebound from 20 feet out in the 6th minute to put the Panthers ahead early. UNI held the lead until a 31st minute NDSU score evened the game at one goal apeice.
Rasmusson netted her second goal of the game in the 60th minute with help from Meghan Schoeberl (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview). Schoeberl's free kick caromed around in the box until Rasmusson punched it through for her second goal of the game. The score gave UNI a 2-1 advantage.
NDSU tied the game in the 66th minute and took the lead in the following minute. One more Bison goal put the score at 4-2 and gave NDSU the win.
The Panthers outshot the Bison by a 12-7 margin, marking the first time UNI has outshot an opponent since 2004. Rasmusson's two-goal effort is the first time a UNI player has scored two goals since Lindsey Daugherty performed the feat last year against Minnesota State. UNI's two goals scored and five points are single-game highs for the season.
The Panthers fall to 1-16-0 on the season and remain 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. NDSU improves to 9-6-1 overall.
The Panthers wrap up the 2006 season with senior night against Creighton Thursday evening. Game time is at 6 p.m.
