Stout, Coleman Lead UNI to 60-47 Win over Illinois State

Cedar Falls, Iowa - Frontcourt mates Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) and Eric Coleman (Maplewood, Minn.) combined for 33 points and 14 rebounds, to help lead the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team to a 60-47 win over Illinois State in the UNI-Dome.
The pair made 14 of their 21 field goal attempts on the evening, as Stout hit 7-of-10 while Coleman connected on 7-of-11. Stout also tied his career high with four steals. Panthers point guard Brooks McKowen (Fairbank, Iowa) played an outstanding overall game, with five points, five steals, three assists and no turnovers.
UNI controlled the game from the outset, jumping to leads of 7-0, 11-3 and 19-5. The Panthers held Illinois State to just 33 percent shooting in the first half - 1-of-7 on three-pointers - as they raced to a 29-16 halftime advantage. The 16 points was the fewest scored by a UNI opponent this season.
The Panthers' lead never fell below double-digits in the second half, going up by as many as 20 (49-29) with 6:20 left in the game. UNI forced 15 Illinois State turnovers on the night and recorded 11 steals. For the night, Illinois State made just 41 percent of its field goals, while UNI connected on 48 percent of its attempts.
With the win, UNI improves to 12-2 overall, 2-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Illinois State falls to 6-5 overall, 1-2 in league play. The Panthers next game is this Thursday (Jan. 5), when they travel to face Wichita State. That game will air live on ESPNU at 8:05 p.m. from Charles Koch Arena.
