UNI Handles Illinois State, 67-52

Normal, Ill. - Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) and Eric Coleman (Maplewood, Minn.) each posted a double-double to lead the University of Northern Iowa to a 67-52 win over Illinois State this afternoon at Redbird Arena.
Stout had 10 points and 12 boards, while adding three blocks and two assists. Coleman had 13 points and tied his career high with 14 rebounds, while dishing out three assists and blocking one shot. The duo was a combined 10-for-16 from the field and 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
Three other Panthers scored in double figures for the Panthers. Brooks McKowen (Fairbank, Iowa) added 10. Freshman guard Travis Brown (Richfield, Minn.) came off the bench to score a career high 12, including hitting three three-pointers.
UNI took control of the game early, jumping to a 17-5 lead with over the first 10 minutes of the game. The Redbirds pulled to within seven, 22-15 with 7:15 remaining, but the Panthers then went on an 8-0 run to extend to a 30-15 advantage with 2:15 left. The Panthers held a 33-18 lead at halftime.
Illinois State went on a 6-0 run over the first five minutes of the second half, cutting UNI's lead to 33-24. But that was as close as ISU would get, as the Panthers went on a 9-2 run to extend to a 42-26 lead with just over 12 minutes left. The Redbirds got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
The Panthers shot 44 percent from the field for the game, while holding the Redbirds to just 32 percent shooting, including 24 percent (7-for-29) in the first half. Stout and Coleman helped UNI win the battle of rebounding, 42-34.
UNI improves to 15-3 overall, 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play, while Illinois State falls to 6-9, 1-6. The Panthers host Southern Illinois on Monday (Jan. 16) at 7:00 p.m. in the UNI-Dome.
